The Card Reader Profile

The Card Reader is a small, yet very complex enclosure. To achieve this complex and stylish finish the design needs many component parts. These component pieces are then assembled using a set of bonding and fitting techniques.

The main component part of the enclosure completes the overall face of the design, incorporating a series of 5 folds. The back of the enclosure is in fact removable and is held together with a set of 4 screws. In the application, this enclosure would be in frequent use in an exposed environment. Therefore it was essential that the design was functional and also attractive to the eye. The face of the design therefore incorporates a clear LCD display window and numerous styling recesses.

To aid the user of the enclosure, the design also has a small arrow diagram engraved into the plastic. This helps to highlight the way the card should be placed into the enclosure in order for the electronics to read the information correctly.

Internally there are a 4 fixing inserts to enable the box to be screwed together. No extra internal fixings were needed to secure the electronics, the size of the enclosure fitted the electronics exactly giving adequate support.

This enclosure was made with 3mm, dark grey, High Impact Polystyrene, fine grain plastic.
